Lovebytes Digital Art Workshops at Showcomotion 2009

We're inviting young people to get creative with digital technology through a series of hands-on workshops led by professional artists and designers. Parents / carers are encouraged to stay and join in. Each workshop costs £5 per child. Pre-booking is essential via the Showroom Box Office 0114 275 7727.

Scratch Game Workshop

Make your own interactive art and computer games in this fun hands-on workshop using 'Scratch', a computer programming language for young people that has been developed by MIT. This workshop offers an opportunity to spend some dedicated time with your children learning the basics of computer programming. Scratch works on Mac, Windows PC or Linux and it's FREE, so you can continue developing projects together at home. The workshop lasts 2 hrs with further free-time to develop your own projects and is recommended for children 7-14 yrs accompanied by parent or carer.

This workshop is part of UnSheffield and supported by Access Space and Lovebytes.

Avatars Workshop

Design your own characters and make your own interactive art and computer games in this fun hands-on workshop using 'Scratch', a computer programming language designed for young people. Scratch works on Mac, Windows PC or Linux and it's FREE, so you can continue developing your projects at home and share them with other Scratch users over the internet.

3D Computer Animation Workshop
For children 11-14 years

Sat 27 June 2pm-5pm

A short-course in making 3D animation using the same software as world re-knowned studios such as Pixar and Disney. Yorkshire based Wak studios will show you how to get started with a hands-on introduction and a free trial version of Autodesk Maya software. The workshop lasts 3 hours and is recommended for Children 11-14 yrs. Wak Studios work with Hunter's Bar Junior School is on display as part of the Avatars Exhibition in the Lightwell.

Interactive & Generative Art Workshop
For Children 7-12 years
Sat 4 July 12.30pm-5.30pm

A chance for young people to learn about using computers and systems to generate and interact with art. The sessions will introduce what generative art is and how systems can be used to control and form artworks. After this, there will be a hands-on session, where the group can play with a range of technologies and see the ideas in action. The workshop will be run by the School of Algorithmic and Interactive Art.
